About Us

Swallows Nursery & Plant Centre is located just off the A421 in Mixbury, a North Oxfordshire village near Brackley. We grow hardy shrubs and perennials on site, and sell a good selection of herbaceous plants, climbers, roses, hedging, trees and topiary to the general public and trade customers. We showcase our plants through wonderful Show Gardens, showing planting styles such as prairie, cottage and shade gardens.

Our new Plant Centre offers an extended range of plants, seeds and flowering bulbs, as well as premium Melcourt peat-free composts and Haddonstone garden ornaments.

Swallows Nursery & Plant Centre is authorised by the Animal and Plant Health Agency to issue Plant Passports, and is a member of the National Farmers Union.

Our Customers

We warmly welcome the gardening public to our beautiful nursery, where alongside the plants and Show Gardens, we offer excellent organic coffee and cake. We also provide trade benefits for our professional customers, including landscapers, farmers, land-owners and estate managers, gardeners, and garden designers, and are affiliated to the Ouse & Cherwell Agricultural Group.

Visit Our New Plant Centre

Come and see the wide range of plants at our new Plant Centre. Unlike many garden centres, we grow the majority of the the plants we sell right here at our independent nursery. That means high quality, fresh plants, that have acclimatised to our conditions. We have an excellent range of herbaceous plants, hardy shrubs, ornamental and fruit trees and hedging plants for sale. The new shop provides quality gardening composts, tools, pots, fertilisers and much more.

Our site has recently been updated with new paths and a larger car park. New for 2025, is a canopy to keep our customers and plants comfortable in inclement weather. And also, we have outdoor and indoor seating areas for our customers to enjoy premium coffee and cake.

NEW MANAGEMENT AT SWALLOWS

Swallows Nursery has been serving North Oxfordshire and surrounds for over 30 years growing hardy shrubs. In spring 2022, Anna Allen took on the business. Anna has solid experience running businesses and her company, Anna’s Garden Services Ltd, provided maintenance gardening to over 200 homes and estates. Anna gained RHS horticultural qualifications from Abingdon & Witney College, and has a life long passion for gardening and growing plants.

Anna says, “We are building a Plant Centre with a difference. It can be daunting creating or renovating a garden. Our new show gardens are providing inspiration, and more than that, we will, in a very practical way, make it easy to buy plants that work well together and achieve ‘a look’. Innovating how people buy plants to optimise their investment is an exciting journey!”.
